Add a pay group
1. In the navigation menu, go to Payroll > Pay groups.
2. Click Create pay group.
3. Under Payroll frequency, select Weekly, Bi-weekly, Semi-monthly, or Monthly.
Note: For Semi-monthly, only standard dates (1st-15th and 16-end of month) are supported.
4. Under Pay group name, enter a name for the pay group. This field will auto-populate with the payroll frequency you’ve selected, but you can rename it. It must be a unique name.
Note: The system automatically provides the standard working hours for the Payroll frequency you’ve selected. You can customize hours to better fit your company's needs by clicking Customize and entering an alternative value.
5. Under Pay period, the information requested will vary depending on the payroll frequency selected.
- Weekly or Bi-weekly: Enter a start date. The end date will automatically populate for you. Input your desired pay date.
- Monthly: Input the cycle start date and the corresponding pay date. Indicate if the pay date falls within the pay cycle or outside of the pay cycle. For example, if your cycle is 1st to month-end and you pay on the 1st of the following month, your pay date falls outside of the pay cycle.
- Semi-monthly: For Semi-monthly, only standard dates (1st-15th and 16-end of month) are supported. The cycle end dates are pre-populated. Input the corresponding pay date for each cycle. Input the first cycle end date each month and the corresponding pay date.
6. Under Pay period ID (optional), you can assign a pay period count to each payroll. For example, if you’ve selected monthly payroll frequency (12 yearly payrolls), you can enter if this pay period will be 5 out of 12 for the calendar year. Note: This option will only appear for Weekly and Bi-Weekly pay groups.
7. Customize your pay date if it lands on a weekend.
- The Friday before
- The Monday after
8. Click Create a Pay group.

Edit a pay group
If you have not yet processed payroll for a pay group, you can make any changes necessary. If a payroll has been processed for the pay group, you can only edit the pay group name, hours per week, or weekend treatment (Friday before or Monday after).
1. In the navigation menu, go to Payroll > Pay groups.
2. Locate the relevant pay group and click Edit.
3. Make the necessary changes and click Save.
How can I change my preference for when a payroll falls on the weekend?
If you have already run payroll for a pay group, you will not be able to edit the details of the pay dates yourself. Reach out to our Customer Support team to assist you.
